Li Yuan-chia | Taipei, Taiwan (1950's to Early 1960's) / Ton Fan Group
Works by the artist, Li Yuan-chia, produced during the late 1950's to early 1960's. At this time Li Yuan-chia was residing in Taipei, Taiwan. Li Yuan-chia’s early career was defined by his response to Taiwan’s introduction of martial law in 1957; forming, along with other artists and intellectuals, the Ton Fan Group. Making the first abstract art in Taiwan as a protest against repression, the Ton Fan Group was recognised internationally and they were invited to present their work at the Fourth São Paulo Biennial in 1957.
